Artificial Beach

Maldives holidays are a beach lover’s paradise, and missing out on the perfect beaches before leaving the country would be a crime. At the eastern seafront of Male is the recreational center, and located here is a beach that has been crafted from breakwater tetra pods. There’s a huge variety of fast food cafes next to it, you’ll also see big open fields where people play ad-hoc football and cricket, and other such sports. There are also bowling alleys and more eateries further up towards the airport ferry.

Old Friday Mosque

Dating from 1656, this mosque is the oldest one in the country. The beautiful structure is made from coral stone, chiseled in which are intricate decorations and calligraphy of Quranic verses. Visiting the Old Friday Mosque will give you a perfect blend of history, religion and architecture, completing your experience of a typical Maldives holiday. Although you will need permission from an official of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, and as most of the staff are officials of the ministry, if you’re dressed in a respectful manner, they will let you in on the spot.

Utheemu Ganduvaru

The childhood home of Mohammed Thakurufaanu, a Maldivian national hero, who alongside his brother overthrew the Portuguese rule of 1573. It is located in Utheemu, an inhabited island in the north of Maldives. Visitors are escorted around the complex of the buildings by a member of the staff of the museum and are able to see the fascinating wooden interior, which is 500-years old, which makes it worth a visit.

HP Reef

If you’re looking for diving sites, HP Reef is one of the best where you can explore different kinds of marvelous coral reef formations underwater and bright-colored fish. This area is marine protected and is located at the North Male Atoll. This is just the place for you if you’re looking forward to getting a close encounter with numerous marine life beneath the deep blue sea.

 

National Museum

Located at Male, the National Museum of Maldives houses different kinds of artifacts that are a window to the history and culture of the country. The original museum was a three story building which was the only part left of the Maldivian Royal Palace. The new building was gifted by the Chinese Government.
