Gear up golf fans because the ultimate tournament of the season, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, is here and it’s bringing together three giants of golf together for golf experience you’ve never had before. Taking place at the Majlis Course of the world renowned Emirates Golf Club, this tournament will have Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson together this season.
Let’s talk about the history of the game. Inaugurated in 1989 and organized by ‘Golf in Dubai’, this game is the longest running professional tour event in the region. As well as carrying the distinction of being the culmination of the ‘Middle East Swing’, the tournament has also established itself as one of the leading tournaments on the European Tour schedule.
Dubai Desert Classic has always attracted some of the biggest stars in golf. Enie Els has had the most successful run in the history of the tournament – having won three times in the past.
This year, the games will be held from 2nd to 5th February, and will be attended for the eighth time by the former World Number One – Tiger Woods, and will be joined by World Number 2 – Rory McIlroy, the reigning British Open champion – Henrik Stenson, and the reigning US Masters winner – Danny Willett along with other leading players in a stellar line-up.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in Dubai and it’s fantastic to see how the city has grown phenomenally from when I first started playing there,” said Woods, who made the most birdies at the Hero World Challenge, which also marked his return in competitive golf.
“It was great winning in Dubai in 2006 and 2008. When you win in Dubai, you know you’ve beaten an outstanding field. The support from the fans is also just wonderful.”
